Rangpur is the administrative capital of Rangpur Division and Bangladesh’s 8th Metropolitan City, situated on the banks of the Ghaghat River in the country’s northwest. With a population of over 700,000 and a literacy rate of 80.94%, well above the national average, it is one of northern Bangladesh’s most important commercial, educational, and cultural hubs.

The city is home to Tajhat Palace, the Indo-Saracenic landmark turned regional museum; Carmichael College, one of Bangladesh’s oldest institutions founded in 1916; and the Begum Rokeya Memorial Centre, honoring the pioneering feminist writer born in this region. Rangpur is also a major tobacco-producing zone, with British American Tobacco, Akij Group, and Abul Khair Group all operating here.
Reachable from Dhaka in 6–8 hours via National Highway 5, with the nearest airport at Saidpur (42 km away), Rangpur is best visited between November and February when the weather is cool and dry.
