The bridge connects Khulna with the southern districts, especially with the Mongla seaport. Khulna division is one of the southern part of the country. The name of this river became Pashur before it came to Chalna and merged into the Bay of Bengal. The very popular Rupsha River in Bangladesh flows past the city of Khulna and joins the Bay of Bengal in the Mongla Channel through the Pashur River. Many fisheries, dockyards, shipyards and factories are located on the banks of this very important river in Bangladesh. The bridge connects Khulna and Bagerhat districts and plays an important role in the country’s economy.
