Bullet train Dhaka to Chittagong route
The survey project was approved on March 18, 2017. The agreement was signed with the consulting firm on May 31 of the same year. The survey was recently completed. Through this, there is a possibility of launching high speed bullet train between Dhaka and Chittagong.
If the bullet train is launched, it will be possible to reach Chittagong from Dhaka in just 55 minutes. That means five hours will be saved instead of six hours.
It is learned that the proposed high-speed railway will pass through Fatullah in Narayanganj. If high speed train line is constructed from Dhaka to Chittagong via Comilla or Laksam, it will take less than an hour to travel on this route. If the railway is extended to Cox’s Bazar, it will be easier to travel to the tourist city of Cox’s Bazar.
The approved cost of the survey project was 100 crore 69 lakh 29 thousand taka. The project was to be implemented between 01 January 2017 and 31 March 2019. But due to rising dollar prices and rising costs in the consulting sector, feasibility studies and detailed design projects have been delayed. Following the completion of the survey project, the next major project is now being adopted. As a result the bullet train will have to wait a few more years to travel.
Feasibility study and design work was done jointly by Bangladesh Railway and China Railway Design Corporation (China) and Majumdar Enterprise (Bangladesh). Under the project, detailed design of various infrastructures, preparation of tender documents, determination of new railway operation process, preparation of preliminary environmental test report, environmental impact assessment of the project, environmental management and monitoring, land acquisition and rehabilitation plan are also underway. The design of the project will be completed by January.
There are 321 km railway line from Dhaka to Chittagong. However, the high-speed railway will be about 94 km less than the previous railway. In this case, the high speed railway will stand at 227 kilometers.
If the project is implemented, the bullet train will run at a maximum speed of 300 kilometers per hour. And will transport about 50 thousand passengers a day. For this, a passenger has to pay a fare of around Tk 2,000.
